Girls Weekend
Two weeks ago, it would have been our trip to Toronto for our company’s annual seminar.
Each year, some of the girls from the company and I pack up our bags for a fun-filled, but insanely busy, weekend. We do some learning, meeting new people, reconnecting with old friends, and getting to see all of the beautiful awards that everyone has earned.
This year, however, was different. Like everything else this year, COVID-19, our seminar was reformatted and done virtually instead of in person. And I must say that our company did an absolutely fabulous job of that. There were some hiccups in the beginning, but their team pulled together and got the job done.
This is one weekend that I look forward to each year. There is a group of us that get together and just have a good time. Sometimes we get out for a little adventure and sometimes not. But the one great thing is, we click. We know and understand each other and know how to work well together. We can tell if one of us is off, and it’s time to step in, but we also know when others need to be left alone. The best part of this group is, we all seem to be social introverts. I used to think I was a social person, but in recent years I’ve learned that I have limits and when, as my one friend puts it, “I have peopled too much.”
This year, two of the girls from our group joined me at the cabin for the weekend. It was wonderful. They came out on Friday afternoon. We had some excellent homemade soup (our founder’s recipe) for lunch, went for a walk into town, then went and hung out on the beach for a while. We then returned to the house and enjoyed some amazingly delicious chicken pocket things and salad, as we watched the opening ceremonies. We giggled, danced to the music, had a little wine and some super yummy cookies. (my mouth is watering thinking of all of the fantastic food.)
We then sat by the fire and enjoyed each other’s company.
On Saturday, we got up at a decent time; this year, we didn’t all have to get ready and takes turns in the bathroom. The house is the right size for everyone to have their own space to get ready. We gathered around the living room and set up our class on the TV. Our sessions were great! We had the occasional glitch attempting to stream the class on TV, but all in all, it wasn’t too bad. While in class, we had some homemade pizza and a Caprese salad. Sooo delicious!
You know, another great thing about this group is that we don’t feel the need to babysit each other. After our class, I’d had a little migraine, so I went to lay down for an hour, and each of the other girls went and did their own thing. We came back for our final class of the day, super excited to learn about that particular topic. We then got to take off for the beach for a little while. We hung out in the water, then sat and enjoyed the sun. It was wonderful. We had another fantastic meal of homemade lasagne and Ceaser salad for supper. Then watched some wonderful women get some impressive awards. We then went for a nice walk along the beach, got some absolutely fantastic ice cream, and then returned to the house for a little visit before bed.
On Sunday, I was up early as the sun shines beautifully into my bedroom in the morning. I got up, made some coffee and sat on the deck, waiting for the others to get up. We stayed out there for the rest of the morning and watched the sessions on one of the laptops. It was a warm but beautiful morning. After our sessions were done, the ladies packed up and were on their way back home.
It sucked that we didn’t all get to be together this year. We missed out on seeing some great things in person, but I have to say, this will most definitely remain one of my favourite Seminar events. It was so relaxed that we didn’t have to rush to get anywhere or rush to use the bathroom before someone else needed it. We got to take time to relax and actually went swimming and chilled on the beach. Plus, we got to enjoy our food. We still took some time to dress up, maybe not to the extent that we would’ve, but we did dress up. But best of all, I got to spend it with two amazing women that I absolutely love and respect. It was a great weekend!
Thank you, ladies, for helping Seminar 2020 be fantastic!
